Some people are moving into smaller homes to cut costs on property taxes and gas. Home designers say people moving into smaller houses favor open spaces, lofts, partitions instead of full walls and lots of windows and skylights. Making the most of a small space is also key, like using a den as a home office and guest room, and having a counter with stools instead of a kitchen table.
