Plaza-owned Central Park South antique store closing

Tomorrow is the last day to buy old furniture, chandeliers, paintings and jewelry at Parc Antiques and Gems at 22 Central Park South. The building, which also houses apartments, is just west of the Plaza Hotel, which could turn it into a condo building.

Elad Properties, which redeveloped the Plaza, owns 22 Central Park South, a seven-story, century-old landmark building with includes 24 residential rental units.

When asked whether the building could be converted to a condo, Elad declined to comment through a spokeswoman. Andrews Building Corporation, the building's managing agent, did not respond to requests for comment.

Employees hope the antique store, which lost its lease, will secure a one-week extension. The store is selling antiques at a 50 to 70 percent discount.

Plainview, NY-based David R. Maltz & Co. auctioned off some of the store's merchandise at a June 11 sale.

There are no signs that Central Park South is losing its other antiques store, Ceasar's Plaza at 24 Central Park South, which sells similar merchandise.
