More WTC delays, budget changes
The World Trade Center's rebuilding schedule and budget will be redrawn again, Port Authority Executive Director Christopher Ward said. The delays will likely postpone the September 11th Memorial's construction beyond its 10th anniversary in 2011, though the foundation in charge of the memorial maintains that the site will be complete by then. Governor David Paterson has been pushing to speed up development, but Ward has cited a number of delays, notably at the transit hub, that have affected the rebuilding of Ground Zero. The development budget, once estimated at $2.2 billion, has skyrocketed to $3.4 billion.
