Hedge funder buys $20M UES penthouse

Billionaire hedge fund manager James Chanos paid $20 million for an
Upper East Side penthouse condominium, $4.85 million lower than the
listing price.

The 7,800-square-foot triplex at 3 East 75th Street, with seven rooms
and a 3,609-square-foot outdoor area, sold on August 14, according to
property records posted today.

Chanos is founder and president of Manhattan-based Kynikos Associates.
A supporter of former governor Eliot Spitzer, Chanos told the New York
Post that he knew call girl Ashley Alexandra Dupre, but did not
introduce her to Spitzer
.

The price was listed by Brown Harris Stevens at $24.85 million in the
fall of 2007, according to StreetEasy.
